A plate of bat biscuits made from oreo cookies

A perfect activity for this Halloween – these super easy kid friendly Halloween bat biscuits! Baking with the kids can be somewhat stressful – or it can be in my house anyway. Flour ends up everywhere, egg shells end up in the batter and it usually ends with someone in tears. Not this time though these Halloween bat biscuits are super easy to make. This makes them so kid friendly, as they can get involved!

I must admit I was inspired by a Pinterest post (ours look nowhere near as polished) but that is part of the charm. I did have to take a deep breath and not worry about them looking perfect, we all had much more fun that way. The kids could take the lead on making them, and they were an easy, cheap Halloween activity. These bat biscuits only need 2-3 ingredients. We managed with 2 but they would be much prettier with an icing pen. They are super easy to make, there’s minimal mess to clean up, and the kids can do most of it. The boys felt really proud of what they had created, even if they didn’t look Pinterest perfect 😉

What you need for Halloween bat biscuits

1 pack of Oreo’s

Chocolate chips (or a chocolate bar)

Icing pen (optional) – In hindsight we should have used this!

How to make them

These biscuits are so easy, even the kids can make them!

  • Take an Oreo biscuit and pull one side of the biscuit off.
  • Using a butter knife scrape half of the cream off.
A child's hand holds an oreo and using a butter knife is scraping half of the cream from the biscuit
  • Roll the cream into 2 balls for the eyes. Place onto the bat, adding a piece of chocolate onto each eye
A child's hands placed 2 rolled up balls of white icing onto an oreo
  • Take the half of the Oreo that doesn’t have cream on it and carefully snap into half. You may find that the wings end up different sizes if it doesn’t snap equally.
  • Push the wings onto the back of the biscuit, where the other half of the cream is
  • If you have an icing pen, add a little smiley mouth

There you have it, super easy, kid friendly Halloween bat biscuits. So super easy even the kids can make them. They may not look perfect, but will the kids enjoy making them – yes! Will they enjoy eating them – yes! If you want yours to look picture perfect then you may want to buy some of the candy eyes to use instead of the cream. You can use the icing pen to stick them on.
