A large pumpkin sits on a bale of hay with a sign behind reading 'pumpkins'

Visiting Hobbledown Heath Pumpkin patch? Or thinking about it? It’s brand new for 2024. The boys and I decided to go and see what it was like. We’ve never really done the whole pumpkin patch thing before. The kids don’t like posing for photos, and being a solo parent getting photos means I either rely on selfies or childhood cameramen. This usually results in photos with missing heads or random objects. Being as this pumpkin patch is new and fairly local, we had nothing to lose!

Our visit

I went online to book tickets, and was advised to book in advance. We decided to book to visit a couple of days before Halloween. Tickets are available here and were £6.50 per person. I booked first thing in the morning for later that day. However, within 10 minutes of booking, I received an email to say the pumpkin patch would be closed until 3pm due to technical difficulties Unfortunately I didn’t check my emails prior to getting there, so we got all the way there and had to turn away. They advised we could visit after that time or a different day. As we had other plans for the afternoon we decided to postpone our visit to the following day. .

The following day we set off once more, after a phone call to check the pumpkin patch was definitely open. I was reassured by the lovely staff member and so off we go! Parking for the pumpkin patch is in the car park for Hobbledown Heath and golf centre. There is a trail that leads under the road to pop up in the pumpkin patch.

What’s at Hobbledown Heath pumpkin patch?

The hobbledown Heath pumpkin patch is separate to Hobbledown Heath. You can buy tickets for one or both! We have visited Hobbledown Heath before and there are lots of things for the kids to do. It’s also a great place for them to burn off some steam with lots of climbing frames and play areas. It’s definitely worth booking for both..

The pumpkin patch, is well a pumpkin patch! Pumpkins everywhere you look. The displays looked fab, and it was all very well thought out. Despite it being the end of October the area was pretty dry and there were no noticeable issues with mud. There are a few different areas of explore, and plenty of photo opportunities. There were pumpkins available to buy and these were dotted around the ‘patch’.

The displays kept the kids interested, and they were keen to get their photos taken. There was also a fairly small jumping pillow. This would have kept them entertained a long while, but it was busy and we needed to head off.

Pumpkins

As you might have guessed, one of the main things at a pumpkin patch is pumpkins. There are plenty of pumpkins around the patch. Unfortunately it seemed as though some of these were beginning to rot, but there were lots of others. Pumpkins are not included in the ticket price, and prices start from £3.

Food and drink

When we visited there was a stall selling hot food such as burgers and chips. They seemed to be priced reasonably. There was also a truck selling hot drinks. There was a covered area with hay bales should you want to take anything to eat with you. However, it isn’t likely you will be there long enough to need to worry too much about this. You can also buy marshmallows for toasting – such an autumnal treat. These were £2.95 for 2 marshmallows and they are already on an extra long skewer for toasting.

Photo opportunities

This is an instagrammers idea of heaven. Almost everywhere you step is a display you can’t wait to get a photo of. You can see Hobbledown has clearly put a lot of thought into the displays and maintaining them. The kids loved all the different areas and things to see.

Parking

Parking for the pumpkin patch at Hobbledown Heath is across the road at the main site. There are clear signs from the car park on how to find the pumpkin patch. There is a trail that leads under the road to pop safely out the other side in the pumpkin patch. We arrived around 11.45 and the car park was very busy, but we did find a space. Parking is £1 an hour and is payable before leaving. There is an area for people to return wheelbarrows to but they were all left in the care park instead.

It is worth visiting Hobbledown Heath Pumpkin Patch?

I would say yes, all 3 of us enjoyed the day. We whizzed around taking photos at all the photo opportunities. We didn’t need to buy a pumpkin but we could see lots of people that were. For less than £20 you could keep the kids entertained for an hour or 2. They would love to go back, and so next year I think we may well just do that!

It’s definitely a lovely thing to do at Halloween and the height chart there means you can make it an annual tradition and watch your littlies become a little less little each autumn.
